Simon Ternes works on his PhD in the research group 'Advanced Optics and Materials for Next Generation Photovoltaics' lead by Dr. Ulrich W. Paetzold at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in close cooperation with the group 'Thin Film Technology' of Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Schabel. He majored in Physics at Heidelberg University and completed his Master’s thesis in the group of Prof. Dr. Yana Vaynzof on the design of a slot-die coater for hybrid perovskite solar cells.
His current research focuses on the development of in situ characterization techniques for quality monitoring of large-scale, solution-processed hybrid perovskite absorber layers. He is particularly interested in the reflectometric analysis of the drying process and in the photoluminescence probing of the crystallization process in thin solution films on the lateral scale of tens of centimetres.
