Summary / Abstract: Energy storage is the decisive solution for handling intermittent problems and assuring the dispatchability of renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic (PV) energy. Pumped Hydro storage (PHS) system is one of the most adopted storage technologies for large-scale power generation. Various studies have been focused on the identification of optimal sites for the PHS system along with its different typologies[1] [2]. In this context, the present study provides in a first step, a prospecting of potential sites for the seawater PHS typology in the Marrakesh-Safi region of Morocco. In addition, a selection of the best locations for a hybrid PV- seawater PHS system has been conducted to provide a continuity to our previous dealing with large-scale PV power plant in the same area [3] and to encourage the integration of solar energy in our field of study by identifying. In this regard, several criteria were taken into account, namely geography, accessibility and risk. Moreover, the Analytical hierarchy process (AHP) technique -which is one of the best and most used multi-criteria decision-making method (MCDM)- was combined with GIS tools in order to generate a ranking map of the most suitable areas to host hybrid PV-PHS units.
