Summary / Abstract: Aerial infrared thermography and production data analysis has been combinedwith replacements of observed faulty modulesto investigate whether themodule defects detected by infrared thermography give observable and detectable powerlosses. The PV plantexamined hasa DC capacity of75 MWp, which corresponds to around300000 PV modules.The analysis shows a clear correlation between observed thermal signatures and detectable power losses on string level.Through module replacement data, regenerative “bounce-back”effects can be observed in the production data, allowing for a better causal link betweendetected power losses and modules affected by thermal signatures. Inaddition,weshowthatactivation of bypass diodes that givea reduction in string power of >1%is detectable, through a fast andsimpleframework.
