Summary / Abstract: Space industry is facing a wave of important changes. The booming of space activities comes along with greater PV power requirements for geostationary orbit. With solar electrical propulsion and high throughput satellites, it becomes necessary to increase arrays’ specific power (W/kg) and power density (W/m3). Moving away from standard rigid panels towards foldable / flexible solar arrays is a promising way to meet this mass and volume challenges and thus address this high-power demand. The ALFAMA project [1], [2] - Advanced Lightweight and Flexible Array with Mechanical Architecture – brings innovative solutions by developing thin and foldable solar arrays with low cost fabrication processes such as lamination and printed electronics.
