Keywords: Rooftop, Shading, Small Grid-Connected PV Systems
Summary / Abstract: On January 8th and 9th 2021, a historical snowfall occurred in Madrid. It caused severe mobility disruption in the city due to the lack of preparation for phenomena of such magnitude, and it affected the production of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) plants like the one discussed here. The fact that some of the PV panels in this PV plant are arranged vertically (portrait), caused the complete shading of their lower cells. This canceled the whole panel electricity production during snow-induced shading of those cells. When analyzing solar radiation, a drastic drop in production was observed.
