Summary / Abstract: The building and construction sector does need to contribute in a more substantial way to worldwide endeavours to become climate-neutral in 2050. Solar integration in the building envelope still represents a niche market. Furthermore, necessary CO2 reductions in the building sector cannot be achieved through PV roof installation alone. A recent study showed that building facades offering a so far untapped potential for the integration of photovoltaics [1]. The aim of the project is the development of an architecturally sophisticated exposed concrete facade with integrated, yieldoptimized smaller sized PV modules. Design and orientation of the combined building units, concrete element and photovoltaics modules in the facade will be already optimized in the digital design process by means of Algorithms-aided Design, in which facade and architectural parameters as well as technical and economic target parameters are included and thus design variants are generated. Within this paper we will present first results of the project, the developed design and technical approaches to combine concrete and photovoltaic processes and we propose, how the building sector can contribute with modular, scalable energy facades.
