Summary / Abstract: Estimations of the energy production of photovoltaic (PV) plants are often based on simulations with hourly resolution. For single axis tracker systems, where the tracker rotation angles change with time, this introduces systematic errors in the simulation. We discuss the effects of the simulation time resolution on the estimated energy production and the increasing need for sub-hourly simulations when using more enhanced tracking algorithms with independently rotating trackers for plants in complex terrain.
