Summary / Abstract:
The most important performance parameters of solar cells and modules are obtained using solar simulators. Both, quality control and price calculation rely on the accuracy of these measurements. Hence, solar simulators have to meet strict requirements regarding intensity, spectral quality, and lateral uniformity of the light emitted. In this work, we present an analysis of an LED-based module solar simulator with respect to the lateral distribution of the AM1.5G white light as well as its individual LED channels. These results are compared to a conventional Xenon-based tool. To this end, we have developed innovative sensor solutions that allow for a rapid determination of the lateral uniformity of solar simulators while being robust and simple to use for industrial applications. Using this sensor can prevent measurement errors due to undetected changes in the light field during longer operation cycles or maintenance.
