Summary / Abstract: Building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technology has the potential to significantly contribute to the achievement of the increasingly demanding energy efficiency targets set by the EU and recently reinforced in the European Green Deal. However, its market uptake has been hindered in the past years by the difficulties of the industry in providing holistic solutions complying with key demands from decision makers and end-users. This market deployment depends critically on the achievement of ambitious targets in terms of cost reduction, high performance, multifunctionality, reliability in the long-term, aesthetics, standardization and compliance with legal regulations. Within this framework, in the frame of H2020 PVSITES project an ambitious set of BIPV solutions specially tailored to provide a comprehensive and robust answer to market demands has been developed. One of these solutions is a low concentration PV solution with associated passive climate control properties for building integration in façades and skylights. Glass-glass semitransparent PV modules in conjunction with integrated optical elements were proposed to concentrate solar radiation onto the cells during the central part of the year and allow light passing towards the interior of the building during the winter.
