Summary / Abstract: Assessing the performance loss rate (PLR) or degradation rate (DR) of a photovoltaic (PV) facility (module, array of modules, plant…) is of paramount importance for its monitoring and has great impact on its economics. The estimation of the degradation rate is yet difficult because the energy yield is impacted by the environmental variables (mainly solar irradiance denoted G) and energy losses due to other factors like shading or soiling. Comparing directly the output power over the years is then not enough. This work aims at proposing a new data-based approach – the VAR method - which has been successfully benchmarked with RdTools on data simulated with the double-diode model.
