Summary / Abstract: Modules with back-contact cells are considered to be amongst the modules with the highest power output when compared to modules manufactured with more conventional cells [1]. Back-contact cells include MWT and IBC, with IBC cells showing the highest performance in the record tables [2]. Manufacturing modules with back-contact cells can be simplified by using a conductive back-sheet [3]. In this paper development of a conductive back-sheet with the necessary properties for high quality module manufacture is introduced. Innovative solutions for improving the quality of the conductive back-sheet will be discussed. Topics covered include an investigation into the residual stresses in the conductive back-sheet laminate and how these can be minimized resulting in a foil with a flatness suitable for module manufacture. A comparison of different solution for the replacement of copper in the conductive back-sheet with aluminium are covered including evaluation of the corrosion resistance of the metal layers in a module during reliability testing and the effect of the choice of the metal layer on the adhesion properties between the metal and the conductive adhesive use to contact the cells. A road-map for further developments will also be presented.
