Summary / Abstract: The European H2020-FOF-13-2015 Eco-Solar project, that was started in October 2015 envisions to increase resource and energy efficiency over the entire photovoltaic value chain, while simultaneously maximising recycling and remanufacturing possibilities, by introducing design for recovery, repair and reuse, and collaborating for improvements in waste reduction. Reusing materials and reducing the consumption of raw materials will make solar cell panels both cheaper and greener. Details can be found on the project website: One of the main aims of work package 1 “recovery and reuse during silicon feedstock crystallisation” is to investigate the technological potential of a new type of silicon nitride crucibles. First results from a series of multiple crystallisation experiments, related material and cell performance will be presented and compared to material crystallised from conventional quartz-based (SiO2) crucibles.
